Church at Sag Harbor

Eric Fischl’s original idea was to have a network of homes in Sag Harbor as a colony of residences for artists. However, one day he want into a historic church in downtown Sag Harbor and fell in love. It was a magnificent space but had passed thru several owners hands, each ultimately stopping the white elephant of a project. One might say it took an artists’ vision and a couple’s devotion to their town to transform this historic church into, what will now be a vibrant, creative community hub.

Purchasing the church required a strategic evaluation of investments, selling two downtown SOHO lofts and assembling the cash to purchase the church. Over 2018-20 the Church underwent significant adaptive renewal to create a multi-purpose space: diverse and flexible work space for artists, residential quarters for visiting artists, community programming and exhibition space and private meeting spaces.

The Church’s vision is centered on Sag Harbor’s history as a continually renewing “maker” town plus a community of creative individuals. It is the center of Eric and April’s own legacy as artists and devoted to the deep sense of community in their town.
